Roberto Martinez says he is still expecting Manchester United to finish in the top four this season as they gear up for their crunch clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the table heading into this weekend’s round of games as Jose Mourinho looks to steer his side into the Champions League in his first season at the club.

Mourinho cut a frustrated figure as his Manchester United side were pegged back and held to a 1-1 draw by Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night.

They must now dust themselves down as they prepare for their crunch Premier League showdown with the Blues at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Chelsea head into the game as the firm favourite to win the title, with the Blues currently seven points clear at the top of the table.

And despite the Red Devils being off the pace in the race for a top-four finish, former Everton boss Martinez says he is still tipping Manchester United to make it into the top four before the season is out.

Speaking on BT Sport on Thursday night, Martinez said: “Finishing in the top four [for Manchester United] will be hard because you’ve got five or six teams working for those positions but I still feel that with their games in hand, Manchester United are one of the favourites to finish in the top four.”
