Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about summer signings
Jose Mourinho says Manchester United's summer signings will be impressed by the team spirit at Old Trafford
Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester United’s summer signings will arrive at Old Trafford to find a team with a strong bond – and ready to win major trophies.
The Portuguese coach is coming to the end of his first campaign in charge at the club after he was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s permanent successor at Old Trafford last summer.
Mourinho has already guided Manchester United to the EFL Cup trophy and will be hoping to add the Europa League to his medal haul before the season is out.
The Red Devils are expected to sign a number of players in the forthcoming transfer window as Mourinho hopes to prepare his side for a return to the Champions League next season.
And the former Chelsea boss has explained why he has been so happy with his group of players and the bond they have formed this season.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Mourinho said: “The group was a nice group [when I arrived at United]. Good people, good boys, committed people. So I think Mr. van Gaal left a good group of boys here with very good relations between them, and I’ve got that in my hands.
“I think they missed happiness, they missed trust, they missed belief and they missed this extra bit that brings resilience and brings you fight. And [now] they have it, so the group that will meet again on 9 July for next season is a stronger group.
“The new players, when they arrive, will find a group more ready to go for big things. But the reality is we are fighting to win the Europa League and fighting to finish fourth, so let’s go.”
Manchester United take on Swansea at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
