Michael Owen reacts to Marcus Rashford’s display in Man United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea
Michael Owen has his say about Marcus Rashford's performance in Manchester United's draw with Swansea
Michael Owen admitted that Marcus Rashford “dived” to win his side a penalty in the first half of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Swansea started brightly and had opportunities to take the lead in the first half at Old Trafford after a strong display against Jose Mourinho’s men.
However, it was Manchester United who went in 1-0 up at the break after Rashford was brought down by Lukasz Fabianski in the box at the stroke of half-time.
Replays showed that there was minimal contact between the Swansea goalkeeper and the Manchester United striker.
And former Red Devils striker Owen admits that Manchester United were lucky to be awarded the penalty in the first half.
Owen said on BT Sport: “It ends up as a dive [by Rashford]. If your foot is off the ground, you’ll never get hurt. It’s ended up a dive but he was sort of protecting himself.”
Wayne Rooney scored the penalty after Rashford was fouled in the first half but Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised for the visitors in the 79th minute.
Manchester United’s draw left them with a struggle to finish in the top four, and they now turn their attentions back to Europa League affairs and their crunch clash against Celta Vigo on Thursday night in Spain.
