Paul Merson delivers his verdict on Man United v Chelsea
The former Arsenal midfielder believes Chelsea would settle for a point at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon
Paul Merson believes both Chelsea and Manchester United would settle for a point in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils will host the Premier League leaders in the late kick-off as Jose Mourinho looks to give his former club a headache in the title race.
Chelsea are four points clear at the top of the table after second-placed Tottenham Hotspur were 3-0 winners against Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United, meanwhile, will be hoping to keep their faint top-four hopes alive and put pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool.
Chelsea have already beaten Manchester United on two occasions this season after a 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the league back in October before a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup quarter-final in west London last month.
Writing in his Daily Star column ahead of Manchester United’s home clash against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, former Arsenal midfielder Merson said:
“Mourinho won’t want to lose this game.
“He might have rested players for any other game because of the Europa League. But he’ll remember what happened at Stamford Bridge and how the Chelsea fans gave him loads of stick for losing. He won’t want that to happen again.
“I think he’ll play the strongest side he can and probably get a draw. Chelsea would take that. This is the hardest game they have left.
