Jamie Redknapp: This is how Man United can beat Chelsea

Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United would be foolish to attempt to replicate Tottenham Hotspur’s successful approach against Chelsea when the leaders make the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho will be looking to disrupt Chelsea’s title bid on Sunday afternoon as the west London side look to restore their seven-point lead at the top of the table.

Indeed, Tottenham heaped pressure on Chelsea after moving to within four points of the leaders thanks to a 3-0 win against Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are one of two teams to beat Chelsea in 2017 so far after England star Dele Alli scored either side of half-time in a 2-0 win in north London back in January.

Many Premier League clubs have attempted to replicate Tottenham’s approach to their 2-0 triumph over an otherwise impregnable Chelsea but have had little success with the 3-4-3 formation.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp warned Mourinho that Manchester United don’t have the suitable players to match up to Chelsea’s system and should instead play to their strengths.

“We know that Chelsea, defensively, are very good. The formation they have, they know exactly what to do,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“It was exactly the same at Juventus when [Antonio] Conte was there, you know his training was always the same so the players know what they’re going to do.

“Tactically, he doesn’t want to concede a goal. We haven’t scored a goal yet against Chelsea so, hopefully this weekend, we will score and we have to.”
