Pat Nevin has warned Chelsea that they will face a stern test of their title credentials when they take on Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues head into the game on the back of their 3-1 win at Bournemouth last weekend as Antonio Conte’s men took another step towards winning the Premier League title.

Chelsea are seven points clear at the top of the table and will have had a free week to prepare for Sunday’s game, while Manchester United are in Europa League action against Anderlecht on Thursday night.

The west London side are in fine form and former Chelsea star Nevin has stressed the importance of the Blues continuing to build on their confident displays against Manchester United.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “The next game against Manchester United is the focus, hopefully on another sunny, joyful day.

“We will look around the other results, but the ability of our manager to focus himself and the team on what we have to do has been consummate. Forget that there is a little bit of breathing space. By winning we squeeze the breath out of the challengers.

“Manchester United is going to be another tester. Jose’s side have European interests and it is maybe another little bit of luck in our favour that we get them when they have been travelling again, but you have to take advantage of any little breaks.

“The old saying is, make hay while the sun shines. Chelsea appear to be doing just that right now.”

Chelsea’s dramatic upturn in form under Antonio Conte this season has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they ended up 10th and without a trophy in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December 2015.
