Martin Keown has warned Antonio Conte that Chelsea will have to win the Premier League title the hard way.

Chelsea moved seven points clear of Tottenham in the title race thanks to the west London side’s 4-2 win against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill and Diego Costa put Conte’s men in a commanding position with five games to go in the title race.

However, Tottenham cut Chelsea’s lead to four points after Christian Eriksen netted a late winner in a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Former Arsenal defender Keown has refused to rule Tottenham out of the title race after Mauricio Pochettino’s men secured their eighth successive win.

“Tottenham are not going away. Last night’s victory at Crystal Palace would have been sickening for the Chelsea players watching at home,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“It is like a tug of war. Every victory you are pulling the rope towards you; every defeat the rope heads back to your opponent.”

“Chelsea are in the box seat and favourites to win the title but Tottenham have won eight league matches in a row will make sure Antonio Conte’s side have to win it the hard way.”
