Graeme Souness has warned Mesut Ozil that he must step his game up at Arsenal.

The Germany playmaker has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team this season but like many of his team-mates has failed to produce consistent performances for the Gunners.

Ozil had scored five goals and made five assists in the Premier League heading into Wednesday night’s clash with West Ham United at The Emirates.

Former Liverpool star Souness has not been impressed by what he’s seen from Ozil so far this season and warned that he will have to step his game up at The Emirates.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Souness said: “He would drive you mad. You know he has outstanding qualities but he doesn’t show it enough.

“On his day he is up there with anybody but does he have enough of those good days? No, he doesn’t. Do Arsenal have enough good days? They don’t.

“That’s why they won’t win the league and right now probably won’t qualify for the Champions League.”

Ozil’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 15 months of their contracts at The Emirates.
