Mesut Ozil has admitted that the mentality of Arsenal’s players could have let the Gunners down this season.

The north London side have endured a frustrating few weeks to heap fresh pressure on under-fire Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich and a miserable run of form in the Premier League has caused them to drop out of the top four.

Arsenal have been criticised for failing to maintain a title challenge in recent seasons, with the players’ mentality often coming under scrutiny.

And Ozil admits that he and his team-mates can definitely improve the mental side of their game.

Asked if Arsenal have a collective mental problem, Ozil told The Daily Mail ahead of their 3-0 loss at Palace: “You’d have to ask the manager.

“When I look at the team, the players are ambitious enough and want to be successful. But sometimes you can’t implement that in games where opposition dominate and we think, ‘They are stronger than us’.

“Even when that is the case, we need to battle until the last second. If you believe in yourselves, you can achieve a lot.”
