Mesut Ozil has stressed the importance of helping Arsenal secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have been left with an uphill struggle to qualify for next season’s Champions League after they suffered a dramatic slump in form in recent weeks.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and without a trophy last season but Arsene Wenger’s men have it all to do if they are to break back into the top four this term.

And Ozil has told his Arsenal team-mates to put their personal targets to one side and instead focus on helping the Gunners qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking in an interview with The Daily Mail, Ozil said: “I haven’t thought about that [missing out on the top four].

“The club comes first, not Mesut Ozil or anyone. The team have the aim to reach the Champions League and I’ll fight for that. In the summer we have enough time to talk about the future and we’ll do that.”

Arsenal are also looking to win the FA Cup this season, with the Gunners set to take on Tottenham in the semi-finals later this month.
