Mesut Ozil: I want to do this before I leave Arsenal
Mesut Ozil says he wants to win both the Champions League and Premier League with Arsenal
Mesut Ozil has admitted that he wants to win the Champions League and Premier League with Arsenal.
The German’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 15 months of their contract at Arsenal.
It remains to be seen whether the playmaker will commit his future to the north London club beyond next summer.
Arsenal are facing a battle on their hands to finish in the top four this season but could still end the campaign with a trophy, as Arsene Wenger’s men take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals later this month.
And Ozil has stressed the importance of Arsenal challenging for the top trophies next season.
“I have one more year on my contract,” Ozil told the Daily Mail. “I want to win the Champions League and the title. I see this club as having the potential to win these trophies.
“You can’t think we won’t win it in the future because we haven’t done so in the past. We haven’t been consistent in the past. We’ve had great first halves of the season and then not had the same in the second half of the season, or the other way round.
“As a team, we need to be more consistent over a season, show more ambition, more strength, more will.”
Ozil will be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
The north London side finished second in the table and without a trophy last season.
