Owen Hargreaves reacts to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal in Man United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht
The former Manchester United midfielder picks out Henrikh Mkhitaryan for praise
Owen Hargreaves heaped praise on Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a wonderful goal at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The Armenia international has been one of Manchester United’s most-prolific players in the 2016-17 season so far.
Mkhitaryan scored against Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne and Russian side FC Rostov on the road in the competition.
The 28-year-old netted Manchester United’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Anderlecht in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
And the summer signing continued his excellent form in the Europa League with a first-half opener to settle nerves at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba’s incisive pass played in Marcus Rashford before the striker crossed for Mkhitaryan.
Speaking to BT Sport about Manchester United’s opening goal in the second leg of their last-eight clash, Hargreaves said:
“It was a brilliant goal from Manchester United. What a pass from Paul Pogba, just to open it up initially.
“Mkhitaryan took up a wonderful position unmarked and smashed it so cleanly and gave the goalkeeper no chance. It was a wonderful goal from Manchester United.”
Anderlecht midfielder Sofiane Hanni cancelled out Mkhitaryan’s goal with an equaliser before half-time at Old Trafford.
However, Rashford score an extra-time winner to book their place in the Europa League semi-final draw.
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
