Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to return to winning ways in the Premier League at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

The Gunners suffered an embarrassing 3-0 loss to London rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Monday to leave Arsene Wenger’s side facing the real prospect of missing out on a top-four finish.

Arsenal are in sixth place and seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table after a disappointing run in the Premier League over the past couple of months.

Indeed, the north London side have lost their last four games on the road in the Premier League after losing to Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion.

But former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing the Gunners to end their poor form on the road in the Premier League with a much-needed win at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

“The great thing about this Monday night game is both teams absolutely have to win,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“There’s no point drawing so with 20 minutes to go it will just be, ‘Attack, attack, attack’ for both teams. It should be a brilliant game to watch.
