Phil Neville was critical of Thibaut Courtois after the goalkeeper’s mistake during Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The Premier League leaders edged into a first-half lead after Eden Hazard’s deflected strike beat Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
However, the Chelsea number one gave the visitors a route back into the Premier League clash after his poor pass found David Silva unmarked.
The Spanish midfielder’s effort was saved by Courtois but the Belgium international was powerless to prevent Sergio Aguero finishing from close range.
His compatriot Hazard spared Courtois’s blushes when the Chelsea winger restored the home side’s lead from the penalty spot despite his initial effort being saved.
Former Manchester United defender Neville was critical of the Chelsea goalkeeper after the Belgian’s rare first-half error at Stamford Bridge.
“Another horrific goalkeeping mistake. He totally fluffs his lines,” Neville told BBC Sport.
“Silva strikes it, Courtois saves it and it’s a tap in for Aguero. Too easy.”
Courtois is bidding to win his second Premier League title in three seasons since returning from an extended loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
