Pundit: This striker’s display proves Man United don’t need Antoine Griezmann
Garth Crooks heaps praise on Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford
Garth Crooks has hinted that Manchester United don’t need to sign Antoine Griezmann given the performance of Marcus Rashford.
The Red Devils striker was handed a starting spot ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the visit of the Premier League leaders on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United eased to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea thanks to goals from Rashford and Ander Herrera either side of half-time at Old Trafford.
The England teenager gave David Luiz a tough afternoon despite his relative inexperience at the top level.
Manchester United have been regularly linked with a big-money move to sign Atletico Madrid and France striker Griezmann over the course of the 2016-17 campaign.
However, former Spurs forward Crooks suggested that Rashford is ready to lead the Manchester United line.
“I have spoken before about how Manchester United must think long and hard about replacing Zlatan Ibrahimovic but I think after their game against Chelsea they don’t have to be so concerned,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“Rumours are rife about Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, and others, joining the ranks at Old Trafford, and that makes sense. But United have a special talent on their hands in Rashford, and they must handle him with care.”
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
The Red Devils signed five players in the summer transfer window last year.
The 20-time English champions are looking to secure a return to the Champions League.
