Pundit warns Antonio Conte: This Chelsea midfielder will leave in the summer
Phil Thompson believes Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will seek a new challenge in the summer transfer window
Phil Thompson has tipped Cesc Fabregas to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Spain international has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in Antonio Conte’s first-team in the 2016-17 season.
However, Fabregas has still managed to have a telling impact on Chelsea’s season despite his lack of competitive action.
The 29-year-old has made a number of vital contributions from the bench, while Conte has alternated between Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in his starting line-up.
Fabregas has been linked with a move to Serie A giants AC Milan in recent months as the Chelsea star weighs up his options ahead of the end of the 2016-17 season.
Former Liverpool defender Thompson believes Fabregas will seek a new challenge at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
“I do not think so as he is not getting any younger. He deserves to play every week. I do not think he will do playing in this setup,” Thompson told Sky Sports News HQ.
Chelsea are looking to win their first Premier League title under their Italian coach Conte.
Fabregas was part of the Blues squad that lifted the top-flight crown in 2014-15 less than 12 months after his move to Chelsea from Barcelona.
