Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United are missing the little details after Tuesday night’s frustrating 1-1 draw with Everton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were looking to end a run of two successive stalemates with Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion either side of the international break.

Manchester United restored Zlatan Ibrahimovic to their starting line-up after the centre-forward served his suspension for violent conduct.

However, Everton made the breakthrough in the first half thanks to Phil Jagielka after the centre-half managed to score an innovative opener following Ashley Williams’s header from the away side’s corner.

Manchester United pushed for an equaliser but Ronald Koeman’s side looked to be heading towards three points before Williams was sent off in added time for handling the ball in his area.

Ibrahimovic stepped up to dispatch the penalty and secured a point for Manchester United, who are now four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Speaking to BT Sport about Manchester United’s performance on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said:

“At home you’ve got to put teams away. Zlatan had chances in the first half.

“They were getting balls cross the box but no players to finish it off.

“They are missing the final details and it’s what is holding the team back.”
