Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea will win the Premier League title this season after Wednesday night’s 2-1 win against Manchester City.

The Premier League leaders were looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend which left the door slightly ajar for Tottenham Hotspur and the rest of the chasing pack.

Chelsea made the breakthrough in the eighth minute thanks to Eden Hazard’s deflected strike which crept past Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero at Stamford Bridge.

Belgium international Thibaut Courtois made a rare mistake which David Silva capitalised on to allow Argentina international Sergio Aguero to level the Premier League clash.

However, Chelsea were back in the lead before half-time thanks to Hazard’s second of the night despite Caballero saving the Belgian’s initial penalty effort in west London.

Speaking to BT Sport about Chelsea’s title challenge with eight games to go, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand backed Antonio Conte’s side to go on and secure their second title in three seasons.

“Yes, absolutely. After the game at the weekend against Crystal Palace everyone was asking if this was going to be a bit of a wobble from Chelsea,” Ferdinand said.

“They answered those critics straight away with a really professional and well-thought out performance.
