Rio Ferdinand’s response when asked Man United need signing in key position
The Manchester United legend discusses whether Jose Mourinho needs to sign a striker in the summer
Rio Ferdinand doesn’t believe Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho needs to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils endured another frustrating 90 minutes at Old Trafford on Tuesday night after a 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League.
Phil Jagielka broke the deadlock in the first half with a close-range finish from a corner to capitalise on a solid performance in the opening 45 minutes.
Manchester United levelled in added time at the end of the second half thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s spot-kick.
The former Sweden international slotted his finish past Joel Robles after Ashley Williams handled the ball in his area.
Marcus Rashford struggled to make an impact on the wing for the hosts, while Ibrahimovic missed lots of chances in the Premier League clash.
Asked during BT Sport’s coverage whether Manchester United need to sign a striker, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand said:
“I’d give Marcus Rashford an opportunity. When he first came in under Louis van Gaal, he looked like a breathe of fresh air. He didn’t look just like the future of Manchester United, he looked the like the future of English football.”
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
