Paul Merson states weird prediction for Stoke City v Liverpool
The former Arsenal midfielder is tipping Liverpool to drop more points against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson is backing Liverpool to continue their weird form against the Premier League’s so-called lesser clubs when Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds put themselves in the driving seat in the race to secure fourth place and a final Champions League spot after four successive home victories over Arsenal, Burnley, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool welcomed Bournemouth to Anfield on Wednesday night but Klopp’s side conspired to throwaway a 2-1 lead after Joshua King netted a late equaliser to deny the Reds three points.
The 18-time English champions are six points ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United but both of their top-four rivals have played two games less than the Merseyside club.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Liverpool’s trip to Stoke City in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, former Arsenal midfielder Merson said:
“Liverpool are a weird team. When they come up against a big side you know what they’ll bring. They’ll come and fly at you and have a right go. Then, against the lesser teams, they just struggle.
They just can’t afford any more of these draws if they want to get the top four, but Stoke were unlucky to lose in midweek at Burnley and I think they’ll get a draw here.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term after Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers back in October 2015.
