Stuart Pearce believes Manchester United could sign Danny Rose with Luke Shaw heading in the opposite direction to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho has been critical of Shaw over the past week or so which has led to transfer speculation that the left-back could leave in the summer transfer window.

The England international established himself as one of the Premier League’s most-exciting talents under Mauricio Pochettino during the Argentinian coach’s spell in charge at Southampton.

Pochettino took over the reins of Tottenham in 2014 before Shaw completed a big-money transfer to Manchester United under Louis van Gaal.

Rose has been one of the Premier League’s most-consistent left-backs in the 2016-17 season, while Shaw has struggled to secure a regular spot in Mourinho’s starting line-up.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQabout Shaw’s future at Old Trafford, the former Manchester City manager suggested that Manchester United could look to sign Rose and use Shaw as a makeweight in the deal.

“There is talk of Tottenham taking him. He has worked with Pochettino,” Pearce said.

“I think the biggest left-back talent is Danny Rose. He has turned into one of the top left-backs in the world. There might be money available for him in a swap deal.”
