Antonio Conte has declared that it is time to stop considering Tottenham “underdogs” as he revealed his admiration for Spurs ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final clash on Saturday.

The north London side have been in fine form in recent weeks and have been Chelsea’s closest challengers for the title this term.

Spurs are currently second in the Premier League table and just four points behind Chelsea heading into the final six games of the season.

However, the two London sides will put Premier League affairs to one side on Saturday evening when they do battle in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

And Conte has revealed his admiration for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, claiming that they will be title challengers for many seasons to come.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Conte said: “Tottenham must finish being considered underdogs.

“They are a great power in English football. This is the third year for them working together and it’s the right moment to finish talking about themselves as an underdog and find this excuse.

“Tottenham is a great team and they are, for the second consecutive year, fighting for the title. Last season they missed this, and this season they’re trying again. In the future Tottenham will stay to fight in every game for the title.

“They are full of great players. They are building something important and this is their third year.

“There is a moment to finish considering yourself an underdog. This is the right moment.”

Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League table last season but are chasing a domestic double in Conte’s first campaign at the club.
