David Bentley has urged Tottenham Hotspur to focus on bringing in some new talent up front in the forthcoming summer transfer window.

The Lilywhites are currently chasing a Champions League qualification spot after they were dumped out of Europe’s elite club competition at the group stage last year.

Spurs are aiming to build on their third-placed finish in the Premier League last season as they look to try and secure a top-four finish under Mauricio Pochettino.

One criticism that has been levelled at Tottenham in recent seasons is their alleged over-reliance on Harry Kane up front.

And former Tottenham midfielder Bentley feels that Spurs need to bring in some significant reinforcements up front in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to 888sport, Bentley said: “Spurs are solid all across the pitch. They’ve got good young players and with players like Eric Dier they have people who can grind it out and do the stuff the more talented players don’t want to do.

“They need someone else up front but they also still need that player who can do something different. You like to think that could be Erik Lamela but the jury is still out.

“They need someone who can do something from nothing, someone like Payet or Mahrez. They already have the base of a great team and have the workers, now they need a player who can chip the keeper or just bang it in. Christian Eriksen is that type of player but I wouldn’t put him in that bracket that I’m thinking of.”

Tottenham return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Swansea City in the top flight.
