Paul Merson states his prediction for West Brom v Liverpool
The former Arsenal midfielder is backing West Brom to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson believes Liverpool will drop points at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Manchester United in fifth spot in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
Liverpool were forced to come from behind at the Britannia Stadium last weekend after goals from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino sealed a 2-1 win against Stoke City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten in the Premier League since a 2-0 loss to Hull City at the KC Stadium on 4 February.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Liverpool’s trip to West Brom on Sunday afternoon, former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Klopp’s side to draw 1-1 at The Hawthorns.
“West Brom have set themselves a certain points target and done brilliantly. They probably don’t want to finish too high because it puts the pressure on next season,” Merson said.
“The Southampton result was disappointing but I think they get something from Liverpool, who will be thinking they have to win.
“The Reds did very well to come back against Stoke and Simon Mignolet made some super saves but this is a tough one.”
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to West Brom.
The Baggies are in eighth place and 18 points adrift of Liverpool in third spot.
Klopp signed seven players in the summer transfer window last term.
