Man United tipped to hand this shirt number to Antoine Griezmann
Ray Wilkins is tipping Manchester United to hand the number seven shirt to Antoine Griezmann if he joins this summer
Ray Wilkins believes that Antoine Griezmann can be Manchester United’s new number seven.
The Atletico Madrid striker has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho begins to think about bolstering his squad ahead of his second season in charge.
The France forward is regarded as one of Europe’s top strikers and his arrival at Old Trafford this summer would be bound to excite Red Devils fans.
It remains to be seen whether a transfer will be completed in the coming months, but former Chelsea coach Wilkins feels that the striker would be a great fit for the Old Trafford outfit.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning, Wilkins said: “Oh most certainly [the number seven shirt would suit Griezmann].
“The Cantonas, obviously Bryan Robson was a midfield player, not so much a striker. But certainly the Cantonas, Ronaldo.
“Yes he will fit in it, no problem at all. He would probably enjoy that as well.
“This guy has scored goals wherever he has played and at the top level as well.
“United have always been used to having centre forward with loads of pace.
“He’s one of the smaller strikers about buy my word this guy does know where the goal is and he is an exceptional footballer.
“Anyone that gets him will be pushing for the title next year.”
Manchester United, who beat Celta Vigo 1-0 on Thursday, are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils head into this weekend’s round of games in fifth place in the Premier League table.
