Arsene Wenger played down his rivalry with Jose Mourinho after Arsenal eased to a 2-0 win against Manchester United at The Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners manager was looking to beat his nemesis Mourinho for the first time in 13 attempts in the Premier League as Arsenal looked to boost their ailing top-four ambitions with five games to go in their season.

Arsenal made the breakthrough in the second half thanks to Granit Xhaka’s deflected effort in the 54th minute before Danny Welbeck doubled the home side’s lead against his former club Manchester United.

The Gunners moved to within two points of Mourinho’s side after their comfortable win at the Emirates Stadium as Wenger finally outwitted the Portuguese coach in the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Manchester United, Wenger was keen to play down his rivalry with Mourinho.

“We have had many draws as well and there were some fantastic teams that we played against. It is not manager against manager,” Wenger said.
