Gary Lineker reacts to Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Man United on Twitter
The Spurs legend suggests Arsenal's 2-0 win over Man United could secure Arsene Wenger's long-term future
Gary Lineker claimed that Arsene Wenger could have secured his long-term future at Arsenal after Sunday’s 2-0 win against Manchester United.
The Gunners boss lifted some of the pressure on his shoulders with a first win in 13 attempts against his nemesis Jose Mourinho in the Premier League.
Arsenal started the afternoon five points behind fifth-placed Manchester United but the hosts were on top throughout most of the first half despite Wayne Rooney’s miss with only Petr Cech to beat.
Granit Xhaka broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when the Switzerland international’s deflected strike looped over Manchester United shot stopper David De Gea.
Arsenal doubled their lead thanks to Danny Welbeck’s powerful header three minutes later after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s superb cross found the former Manchester United striker in the penalty area.
Spurs legend Lineker took to Twitter to joke that Wenger’s audition to remain as Arsenal manager in the long-term went well on Sunday afternoon.
Lineker wrote: “Arsenal’s caretaker manager might get the job permanently after this performance.”
Arsenal are in sixth place and seven points behind third-placed Liverpool, having played two games less than Jurgen Klopp’s men.
