Gary Neville reacts to Danny Welbeck’s goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Man United
The Manchester United legend praises Danny Welbeck for an impressive goal in Arsenal's 2-0 win
Gary Neville singled out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for praise after the midfielder’s cross set up Danny Welbeck to double Arsenal’s lead in a 2-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Gunners were looking to restore some pride at the Emirates Stadium after Arsene Wenger’s men suffered a resounding 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at White Hart Lane last weekend
Arsenal were the superior team in the first half but Manchester United had the best chance to break the deadlock after Wayne Rooney got on the end of Rob Hodling’s back pass but couldn’t beat Petr Cech.
Granit Xhaka broke the deadlock with a deflected strike in the 54th minute at the Emirates Stadium before Welbeck scored three minutes later to seal three points for the hosts.
Oxlade-Chamberlain picked out Welbeck with a wonderful cross before the former Manchester United striker guided a powerful header past his ex team-mate David De Gea.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Welbeck’s header, former Manchester United defender Neville said:
“Oxlade-Chamberlain showed persistence on that far side. Darmian doesn’t get out anywhere near quick enough. It’s poor from the full-back.
“It’s a wonderful cross. The pace is on the ball and he uses that to power it past De Gea.”
