Jose Mourinho praised Arsenal’s “amazing” fans after Manchester United’s 2-0 loss at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

The Portuguese coach watched one of his sides lose to Arsenal for the first time in the Premier League on Sunday as goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck handed Arsene Wenger’s men all three points.

The win dealt a damaging blow to Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the top four this season and left Arsenal knowing that they can move above the Red Devils if they win their game in hand.

However, Mourinho insisted that he was pleased to see Arsenal take all three points against one of his teams for the first time.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mourinho said: “Finally I leave this stadium with Arsenal fans happy.

“It’s the first time I see them smile and enjoy it. They deserve it because they are an amazing club – and amazing fans also deserve some joy.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they travel to St Mary’s to take on Southampton.
