Jamie Redknapp: What I really think about Mesut Ozil at Arsenal
Jamie Redknapp gives his honest thoughts about Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this season
Jamie Redknapp has insisted that he is a big fan of Mesut Ozil but wants to see the Arsenal forward improve his game when things are not going well for his team.
It has been a difficult few weeks for Ozil and his Arsenal team-mates, with the Gunners having been thrashed by Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Arsenal have also struggled in the Premier League since the turn of the year, with the north London side facing a serious uphill struggle to get into the top four before the season is out.
Ozil has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team this season, with the German playmaker having scored 11 goals and made nine assists in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men.
However, Redknapp feels that Ozil goes missing too often when Arsenal are not at their best.
Redknapp told Sky Sports: “I’ve always been a big fan of Ozil and there’s no doubt he’s one of the most talented players in the league.
“But when he’s not on it, there’s a fine line between looking like a great player and someone who looks like they couldn’t care less.
“He looks unhappy and when he’s not playing well, because of his disposition, because of how languid he is, it accentuates it even more.
“There are obviously factors behind his frustration – from his contract situation to playing in a struggling team – and that’s having a knock-on effect on his performance but, like his team-mates, he needs to get himself motivated for an important end to the season.”
Ozil will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Manchester United in the Premier League at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
