Mark Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to beat Everton in their final Premier League game of the season at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners still have a chance to secure a place in next season’s Champions League but will have to hope that Liverpool stumble against Middlesbrough at Anfield.
Arsenal have been in decent Premier League form in recent weeks thanks to successive victories over Manchester United, Stoke City and Sunderland to finish the season on a high.
The north London side haven’t missed out on a top-four finish since Arsene Wenger took over the reins in 1996.
Writing in his BBC Sport column about Arsenal’s home clash against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson said:
“Arsenal have got next week’s FA Cup final to think about but I don’t think that will affect the result, because they can still finish in the top four and they have to go for the win in case Manchester City or Liverpool slip up.
“Everton will finish seventh whatever happens and they will make a game of it, but the Gunners are on a good run and I think they will come out on top.
“However, even if Arsenal do win, I think it will be too little, too late for Wenger’s side as far as making the Champions League places goes – I think Liverpool and City will both win.”
Arsenal will take on Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday 27 May.
The Gunners are looking to win the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons under Wenger.
