Gary Neville: Why Arsenal are favourites to beat Man United
The former Man United defender believes Arsenal should be favourites to secure three points at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon
Gary Neville insists Arsenal are favourites to beat Manchester United at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon despite losing last weekend’s north London derby.
The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against La Liga outfit Celta Vigo on Thursday night following Marcus Rashford’s 67th-minute free-kick in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
Manchester United have failed to win their last two Premier League games following stalemates with Manchester City and Middlesbrough.
Jose Mourinho’s side have little over 48 hours to recover from their Europa League exploits before their trip to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners lost 2-0 to their rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at White Hart Lane last weekend.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville believes Arsenal should have the edge on the Red Devils on Sunday provided that Arsene Wenger’s players are in the right frame of mind.
“It’s the sort of game where if Arsenal score first with United in town, then it could lift everybody,” said Neville, speaking to the Gary Neville podcast.
“There is a lot on this game – United have got a lot of games coming up and there isn’t a respite for them. Arsenal have got to be favourites but – psychologically – you just don’t know where they are at.”
Manchester United are in fifth place and five points ahead of Arsenal in the race for a top-four finish.
