Arsene Wenger says he expects Manchester United to adopt a defensive approach against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners will welcome the Manchester club to north London as Wenger’s side look to keep their slim top-four hopes alive.

Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind third-placed Liverpool with five games to go in their season.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are one spot above Arsenal but Jose Mourinho’s men are still four points adrift of the Merseyside club.

The Red Devils adopted a negative approach to the Manchester derby last week as Manchester United secured a goalless draw with Manchester City.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference about the type of games Arsenal fans can expect against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Wenger said:

“I believe they will certainly try to be defensively solid but they will try to win the game as well.

“For them it is like for us – both teams are in the position where they have to win the game to have a little chance to be in the top four.”
