Arsene Wenger talks up reported Chelsea transfer target
Arsene Wenger explains why he is such a big fan of former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku
Arsene Wenger has singled out Romelu Lukaku for special praise ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The Everton striker has been in superb form for the Toffees this season and has scored 24 goals in the Premier League so far this season for Ronald Koeman’s men.
Lukaku has been touted as a possible transfer target for Chelsea in the summer as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.
Conte is likely to want to significantly bolster his squad in the summer as he prepares his side to compete on four fronts next season.
And Arsenal manager Wenger has revealed that he is a long-term admirer of Belgian striker Lukaku, who has notched up six assists in the Premier League this season.
Wenger told his pre-match news conference at London Colney on Friday morning: “If you look at his record, it’s quite impressive. I believe that every big club who plays against him is conscious that at any moment he can score a goal against you through his power, his determination.
“I haven’t analysed it enough, the big games of Everton, to see if it’s true or not.”
He added: I think nobody has scored more goals in the Premier League at his age than him. You have to respect that.
“We were not really after him because he was at Chelsea and belonging to Chelsea.”
Arsenal, currently fifth in the table, are preparing to host Everton at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as they look to keep their faint top-four hopes alive with a win.
