Jamie Carragher opens up about Cesc Fabregas’ situation at Chelsea
Jamie Carragher admits that he's at a loss to explain why Cesc Fabregas has struggled to hold down a Chelsea starting spot
Jamie Carragher has admitted that he’s at a loss to explain why Cesc Fabregas has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Chelsea team in recent months.
The 30-year-old has been a consistent performer when called upon by Antonio Conte but he has experienced a severe lack of playing time this season after Chelsea signed N’Golo Kante last summer.
Fabregas has earned plenty of praise for his displays throughout the 2016-17 campaign but he has still only made 11 Premier League starts this season.
The Spaniard, like most of his team-mates, failed to find consistent form last season as they ended up 10th in the Premier League table.
And Liverpool legend Carragher admits he is not sure why Fabregas has been struggling to hold down a starting spot in recent months.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “Fabregas has been in and out of the team.
“It’s OK saying, ‘look at the assists that he has’. The first thing Antonio Conte does is buy N’Golo Kante. He seemed to fall out of the team under Jose Mourinho at the end. I don’t know what it is.”
Chelsea can win the title by beating West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
