Jamie Carragher opens up about Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea
Jamie Carragher has his say about Michy Batshuayi's first season at Chelsea
Jamie Carragher has admitted that it has been a “tough” first season for Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea.
The Belgian striker signed for the Blues from French side Marseille last summer but has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge.
However, Batshuayi had a huge impact on the title race when he came off the bench to score Chelsea’s winner against West Brom last week and hand the Blues the Premier League title.
The striker then started his first Premier League game of the season and scored his third goal of the campaign in the 4-3 win over Watford on Monday night.
It remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will stay on and fight for a place in the first team at Stamford Bridge next season.
And Liverpool legend Carragher has given his take on how he has seen Batshuayi’s first campaign in the Premier League.
Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “It’s been a tough time for Batshuayi this season. He was a big-money signing.
“I’m sure he thought he might partner Costa. It hasn’t quite happened for him. He got the goal last week and he carried that on tonight.
“Who knows if he will be here next season? It’s a nice way for him to finish [the season].”
Chelsea will take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
