Gary Neville: Why I love Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
Gary Neville gushes with praise for Antonio Conte following the Italian's brilliant first season at Chelsea
Gary Neville has heaped praise on Antonio Conte following his sparkling first season at Chelsea.
The Italian manager has earned plenty of praise for the impact he has had at Stamford Bridge following his appointment at the west London club last summer.
Conte took over with Chelsea having slumped to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League last season but has masterminded a remarkable turnaround at the club.
Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions last week and are still chasing a domestic double this season.
And former Manchester United defender Neville has been thoroughly impressed by Conte’s impact this season, highlighting the way the Italian manager has gone about his business in style.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “Conte can coach very well, he coaches to win.
“I don’t see him bragging about his philosophy or his values – I just see him thinking about winning.
“He has the eyes of a winner. He would compromise his values and philosophies to win. All the championship winning managers have that about them. Conte is fantastic, he’s delivered results in different countries. He’s proven himself in England.
“He didn’t have the system right earlier in the season but he found a way to get the players to get behind him. It’s not easy to blend players together.
“It’s hard for them to get behind you and not use you as a scapegoat. He should enjoy and revel in one of the greatest moments you can have in football in this country.”
Chelsea will look to make it a domestic double in Conte’s first season in charge at the club when the Blues take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of the month.
