Antonio Conte has hailed Cesc Fabregas’ contribution to Chelsea’s Premier League title challenge this season.

The Spanish midfielder has found his first-team opportunities to be somewhat restricted this term following Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge last summer.

Indeed, Fabregas has only started 11 games in the Premier League for Conte’s side but has still impressed whenever called upon by the Italian manager.

The 30-year-old was named as the man of the match as he produced a sparkling display to help Chelsea secure a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday night and leave them on the brink of the title.

And Conte has been thrilled with how Fabregas has contributed to Chelsea’s cause this season despite not being a first choice in midfield.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Monday night, Conte said: “Cesc is one of the best examples of our season.

“This season he didn’t play a lot at the start. Then, through hard work, he improved a lot and now he is playing in every game. This development of Cesc is our development.

“We started the season not in the right way, with a lot of problems, and only through hard work and finding the right solutions together have we found the right way.

“I think Cesc is showing he is a fantastic player and I’m pleased for him. I saw this season he put himself in this team in every moment if he played, or if he didn’t play. Now he is deserving this.”
