Frank Lampard: This is Chelsea’s unsung hero this season
Frank Lampard singles Cesar Azpilicueta out for special praise after Chelsea's 1-0 win at West Brom
Frank Lampard has singled out Cesar Azpilicueta as one of Chelsea’s “unsung” heroes this season.
The Spaniard provided the cross for Michy Batshuayi to fire home the winner and secure Chelsea the title in the 1-0 win over West Brom at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
Azpilicueta has been ever-present in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up this season and has started all 36 of Chelsea’s Premier League games this term.
The 27-year-old has also notched up four assists for his team-mates to help them clinch the title in Conte’s first campaign at the club.
And speaking to Sky Sports after Friday night’s 1-0 win at West Brom won Chelsea the title, Lampard was full of praise for Azpilicueta.
Lampard said: “Azpilicueta is one of the unsung heroes of the team.
“He sticks that ball in quickly and puts it on a plate for him [Batshuayi].”
Chelsea will look to win a domestic double this season when they take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
The Blues finished 10th and without a trophy last season.
