Gary Neville has admitted that he never expected Chelsea would win the Premier League this season.

The Blues have been the Premier League’s top performing team by far and are on the brink of being crowned champions.

Antonio Conte’s men will be champions if they beat West Bromwich Albion in Friday’s clash at The Hawthorns.

Their dramatic improvement in form this season has been nothing short of remarkable following their 10th-placed finish last term in the wake of the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Conte has had a huge impact at Stamford Bridge and will be hoping to help Chelsea win a double when they take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of the month.

And former Manchester United defender Neville admits that he never expected to see Chelsea crowned as champions this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Neville said: “The feeling I had at the start of the season was that they wouldn’t win the league this year.

“I thought one of the Manchester clubs would win it. He was picking up an experienced Chelsea squad. His Italy and Juventus squads, there weren’t many young players. He likes hardened experienced players.”
