Cesar Azpilicueta talks up reported Chelsea transfer target
Cesar Azpilicueta admits that he is a keen admirer of former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku
Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that Romelu Lukaku is a “very dangerous” player amid the speculation linking the striker with a return to Chelsea.
Lukaku has been in superb form for Everton this season and is currently the Premier League’s top scorer, having netted 26 goals and made six assists in 34 games for the Toffees.
The Belgium international’s fine form has sparked speculation suggesting that Chelsea could be set to make a bid to bring the striker back to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Lukaku was unable to score against his former club when Chelsea secured a 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
But Chelsea defender Azpilicueta admits that the Blues had their work cut out in trying to keep Lukaku quiet at the weekend.
Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s website: “We know Lukaku is the top scorer in the Premier League, he’s very dangerous but we just tried to defend him as best as we could.”
He added: “Obviously it’s one step forward but there are still four games to play. We are really happy with the Everton game but now we must focus on the next one.”
Chelsea are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their home clash against Middlesbrough on Monday night.
