Chelsea are considering a transfer move to beat Tottenham to the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Express is reporting that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is interested in making a summer move to bring Barkley to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens.

The story also says that Conte will hope that the lure of Champions League football next season would play a role in a potential deal.

The report says that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is “desperate” to lure Barkley to White Hart Lane this summer but it appears that Chelsea are now also in the race to sign him.

Barkley has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Tottenham’s London rivals Arsenal ahead of the transfer window, according to the report.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and made eight assists in 35 Premier League games for Everton so far this season.
