Chelsea set to secure £50m first summer signing – report
Chelsea are confident that they have won the race to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton this summer, say reports
Chelsea are “confident” that they have beaten the likes of Arsenal in the race to sign Virgil Van Dijk in a £50m deal, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun are reporting that the Blues believes that they have won the race to secure the signature of the highly-rated Southampton defender ahead of the Gunners.
The same report claims that Chelsea have successfully tempted Southampton into selling Van Dijk by offering them young Denmark centre-half Andreas Christensen as part of the deal.
The 21-year-old Christensen is coming to the end of his second season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach but is due to return to Chelsea this month.
The story also claims that Arsenal have failed in their bid to land Van Dijk, despite offering him a deal worth more than £150,000 a week.
Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their home clash against Middlesbrough on Monday night.
The west London side are four points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
