Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea v Middlesbrough
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Chelsea's clash with Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Monday night
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea to take another big step towards winning the Premier League title on Monday night by beating Middlesbrough 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues kept their Premier League title bid on track last weekend when they beat Everton 3-0 in impressive fashion to move them to within three wins of lifting the trophy.
The west London side take on Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday night as they try to keep their title bid on track.
And former Liverpool man Lawrenson is fully expecting to see the west London side claim all three points when they take on Middlesbrough next week.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “The title is in sight now for Chelsea and they are playing the second-worst team in the league, so there is only going to be one outcome here.
“The good thing about Antonio Conte’s side is that they just never stop. We saw last week how they struggled a bit against Everton, but found a way to overcome them.
“I can see them putting so much pressure on Boro that the visitors just collapse.”
Defeat would relegate Middlesbrough and they won’t go down without a fight – but I don’t see them getting anything at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are chasing a domestic double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club, with the Blues set to take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
The Blues’ upturn in form this season has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they ended up 10th and without a trophy.
