Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea v Sunderland
The former Liverpool defender believes Chelsea will beat Sunderland irrespective of what team Arsene Wenger selects
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea to beat Sunderland irrespective of the side that Antonio Conte selects for the Stamford Bridge clash on Sunday.
The Blues won the Premier League title last Friday thanks to a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Friday night thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s close-range finish at The Hawthorns.
Conte made wholesale changes for the visit of Watford on Monday night, but Chelsea still edged to a 4-3 win against the Hornets to edge closer to an elusive 30 top-flight wins in a season.
Sunderland, on the other hand, were relegated earlier this month and the Black Cats have lost two of their last four games to secure their demotion to the Championship.
Writing in his BBC Sport column about Chelsea’s home clash against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing the Blues to finish their title-winning campaign on a high.
“Whatever team Conte picks, I don’t think Sunderland will be able to stop the Blues from finishing their title-winning campaign on a high note,” Lawrenson said.
There are more questions than answers about what will happen next at the Black Cats, and the only thing we really know is that they will be in the Championship next season.”
Chelsea will take on bitter rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday 27 May.
