Chris Sutton predicts where Arsenal, Liverpool will finish
The former Chelsea striker is backing Liverpool to finish in the top four ahead of Arsenal
Chris Sutton believes Liverpool will finish ahead of Arsenal in the top-four race after Sunday’s 4-0 win against West Ham.
The Gunners put the Merseyside club under pressure in their pursuit of a Champions League spot after Arsene Wenger’s side ended their winless run at the Britannia Stadium.
Indeed, Arsenal eased to an emphatic 4-1 win against Stoke thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners moved to within a point of Liverpool after their impressive win, but Jurgen Klopp’s men responded with a 4-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi restored their four-point cushion, although Arsenal will cut the Reds’ lead to a point should the Gunners win their game in hand.
Arsenal will welcome Everton to the Emirates Stadium in their final Premier League game of the season, while Liverpool will host relegated Middlesbrough.
And Sutton is confident Liverpool will secure a top-four finish with a win against Boro required to wrap up a spot in next season’s Champions League.
“Liverpool were eighth last season. This season has been a success,” Sutton told BBC Radio’s 606 podcast.
“They’ve slipped up against the weaker teams at home. Middlesbrough are that bad, the top four race is done and dusted.”
