Ex-defender reacts to Diego Costa’s celebration in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Boro
Frank Sinclair ponders whether Diego Costa was waving goodbye to Chelsea fans after his goal in a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough
Frank Sinclair questioned whether Diego Costa’s goal celebration in Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Middlesbrough was a hint that his future lies away from Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international broke the deadlock in the first half with a close-range finish before goals from Marcos Alonso and Nemanja Matic sealed three points for the hosts.
Costa was caught on camera waving to the Stamford Bridge crowd following his opener amid transfer speculation linking the 28-year-old with a move to China at the end of the season.
Former Chelsea defender Sinclair felt compelled to take to Twitter to speculate about Costa’s celebration and what it could mean in terms of the striker’s future at the west London club.
Sinclair wrote: “1-0 @ChelseaFC read what you want into Diego’s celebration, was that a wave to the fans #goodbye or to someone in his fam #offtochina ⚽️”
Costa has scored 19 goals and has made six assists in 32 appearances in the Premier League this season under Antonio Conte.
The Spain striker moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid in the 2014 summer transfer window.
Costa won the Premier League title in his first season at Chelsea.
