Frank Lampard: What Andrea Pirlo told me about Chelsea manager
The Chelsea legend revealed that Andrea Pirlo told the ex-midfielder to warn his Chelsea pals about Antonio Conte's training regimes
Frank Lampard has lifted the lid on Andrea Pirlo’s reaction to Antonio Conte taking over the reins at Chelsea.
The Blues appointed Conte as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor at the end of the 2015-16 season after Chelsea finished in tenth place.
The Italian coach wasted no time bringing in five new players to overhaul Chelsea’s squad in the summer transfer window.
Conte transformed Chelsea with his revolutionary 3-4-3 formation as the Blues close in on a first Premier League title under the Italian.
And Lampard, who played alongside Pirlo at New York City FC, revealed that the Italy legend had some advice for the Chelsea squad.
Lampard told Sky Sports: “When he signed for Chelsea, Pirlo said to me, ‘ring your mates and tell them they have never run as much as they’re going to run from now on – and to get ready for video meetings’.
“I rang John Terry and he said, ‘that’s all I need at 36!'”
Pirlo won two Serie A titles under Conte during the former defender’s spell in charge of Juventus.
Conte has been linked with a move to appoint Pirlo as a coach at Chelsea earlier this season.
The Blues are looking to win the FA Cup ahead of their final meeting with Arsenal at Wembley.
