Gary Neville reacts to Anthony Martial’s display in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Man United
The Manchester United legend reacts to Anthony Martial's performance at Tottenham Hotspur
Gary Neville praised Anthony Martial’s good work at White Hart Lane as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils were looking to restore some pride of a 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend following goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck.
However, Tottenham made the breakthrough in the sixth minute in their last-ever Premier League game at White Hart Lane thanks to Victor Wanyama’s sixth-minute opener.
The north London side doubled their lead in the second half thanks to Harry Kane’s 22nd goal of the Premier League campaign when Harry Kane finished from close range.
Martial proved to be Manchester United’s biggest threat at White Hart Lane and the France international helped the visitors to halve the deficit in the second half.
The France star’s low cross was turned into his own net by Jan Vertonghen under pressure from Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.
Speaking about Martial’s role in Manchester United’s goal, Neville told Sky Sports:
“It’s a spanner in the works. It’s Martial’s hard work.
“Martial goes past Trippier. He does really well. Who finishes it? Looks like Vertonghen. First one Rooney, second one Vertognhen.
“There is enough for Rooney to claim it.”
