Gary Neville sends message to Antonio Conte after Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Watford
The Manchester United legend reckons Antonio Conte will forgive his Chelsea players for a conceding three goals on Monday night
Gary Neville believes Antonio Conte will forgive his second-string team for conceding three goals after Chelsea’s 4-3 win against Watford on Monday.
Chelsea took to the pitch for the first time since being crowned Premier League champions on Friday night thanks to 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.
Conte made wholesale changes to his Chelsea team for the visit of Watford, and John Terry made the breakthrough in the first half on what could be his penultimate appearance as a Blues player.
Cesar Azpilicueta restored Chelsea’s lead but Watford hit back to make it an uncomfortable afternoon for the newly-crowned champions.
Cesc Fabregas was brought on after Michy Batshuayi’s close-range finish was remarkably cancelled out with 20 minutes to play.
And the Spanish midfielder scored a scuffed winner to seal three points for Chelsea ahead of their final game of the season against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Former Manchester United defender Neville felt that Conte would forgive his Chelsea players for a scrappy performance after Friday night’s title celebrations.
“I think he will be disappointed with certain things in the game in terms of conceding the goals,” Neville to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“When you make that many changes, it’s difficult to come into the team. Sometimes its unfair to judge those player.
“They’re ring rusty. They’re not up to scratch. There are certain circumstances that he would forgive them on.”
Chelsea will take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday 27 May.
